White Wedding Platform speaks about the Ukrainian wedding dress in terms that extend beyond design and the international market. For the platform, the white wedding dress is a cultural artifact that preserves memory, craftsmanship, and ideas of beauty passed down through generations of Ukrainians.

In 2025, this vision received the support of the Swiss-Ukrainian UCORD project. This marked the beginning of the “Through the History of Bridal Fashion” project — Ukraine’s first comprehensive initiative dedicated to preserving the history of the white wedding dress as an important part of the country’s cultural heritage. At the heart of the initiative is the book “Ukrainian Wedding Wonder”, which introduces an international audience to the history of the Ukrainian white wedding dress as a cultural phenomenon. For the first time, the stories of people, craftsmanship, family businesses, and generations of artisans have been brought together in a single volume. Despite the international recognition of Ukrainian bridal fashion, this history is being told for the first time as a cohesive part of Ukraine’s cultural heritage.

Over a year and a half of research, “Ukrainian Wedding Wonder” evolved into something far greater than a book about bridal fashion. The publication brings together materials that, until recently, existed separately: archival photographs of brides from different regions of Ukraine, family albums, museum collections, historical documents, artisans’ recollections, the YEDYNA brand archive, as well as interviews with people who stood at the origins of the modern Ukrainian bridal industry more than thirty years ago. Each of these sources preserved only a fragment of the story. Brought together through the process of creating the book, they reveal a much broader and more complete picture.

Photography holds a particularly important place in the book. It became the principal witness to time. The publication brings together materials from the All-Ukrainian Wedding Photography Foundation, archival photographs from different regions of Ukraine, family albums, and museum collections. Each photograph is more than an image of a bride — it is a historical testimony to its era. Through changing silhouettes, fabrics, details, and even the expressions of the women portrayed, a history of Ukrainian society, culture, and aesthetics gradually unfolds, revealing how they evolved over the decades.

“Ukrainian Wedding Wonder” traces the origins of the Ukrainian bridal phenomenon far from the traditional fashion capitals — to Podillia and Bukovyna. Drawing on archival documents, family photographs, and the testimonies of artisans, the book shows how a regional culture of dressmaking gradually created the environment from which future brands would emerge. What is most fascinating is not only the chronology, but the very mechanism of this transformation: knowledge was passed down within families, domestic work evolved into entrepreneurship, and limited access to materials gave rise to distinctive techniques and remarkable design ingenuity.

Equally valuable are the interviews with the founders and leaders of contemporary Ukrainian bridal brands — people who, more than thirty and even forty years ago, established their own workshops, created their first collections, and helped shape an industry that is now known far beyond Ukraine. For the first time, their personal stories, memories of the early years, creative explorations, professional challenges, and bold decisions have been brought together under one cover.

The tailoring dynasties of Podillia and the bridal decoration traditions of Bukovyna come together on the pages of the book to form a single story — one of local experience that, over time, acquired global significance. After reading it, the words Made in Ukraine take on a different meaning: not simply a place of production, but a mark of origin rooted in specific regions, cultural memory, and the craftsmanship of several generations.

At the heart of this book lies one simple idea: no industry emerges on its own. It is created by people — through their daily work, craftsmanship, experience, and the memory passed from one generation to the next. In the book, we wanted to show that the story of the Ukrainian wedding dress begins with small workshops in Podillia and Bukovyna, with the first sewing machines, and with families who spent decades refining their craft under difficult historical circumstances, never imagining that one day it would become the foundation of one of Ukraine’s most recognizable creative industries.

“Ukrainian Wedding Wonder” was conceived as an art book — one to return to again and again. It will appeal to fashion historians, designers, museum professionals, collectors of art publications, representatives of the fashion industry, and anyone interested in the history of dress and cultural heritage. At the same time, it remains a deeply personal story about the people who transformed Ukrainian craftsmanship into one of the most remarkable chapters of contemporary global bridal fashion.

Today, Ukrainian bridal brands occupy a prominent place at the world’s leading international bridal trade shows and work with salons across dozens of countries. “Ukrainian Wedding Wonder” captures this moment of transition — from the role of “behind-the-scenes production” to an industry that speaks in its own voice. White Wedding Platform has become one of the symbols of this transformation: an international professional platform that brings together buyers and bridal salon owners from different countries. The book adds to this success something that every rapidly growing market eventually needs — an awareness of its own history. Ukrainian brands can now present to the world not only their latest collections, but also the origins of an industry whose visibility is rooted in a history of cultural heritage.
